»Hear the light! See the sound!«

Bereits zum zehnten Mal veranstaltete das von mir 2001 gegründete eu-art-network ein internationales Kunstsymposium in Österreich. Zwischen 26. August und 5.9 September 2010 waren mehr als 30 Kunstschaffende aus der Europäischen Union zu Gast in die Cselley Mühle Oslip (Burgenland), um in den Bereichen Malerei, Bildhauerei, Druckgraphik, Digitale Medien, Installation, Performance, Komposition und Tanz 10 Tage lang künstlerisch zu arbeiten. Das diesjährige Symposion stand unter dem Motto »Hear the light… see the sound…« und setzt sich mit synästhetischen Phänomenen in der Kunst am Beispiel des europäischen Künstlers Franz Liszt auseinander.

Die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer kamen aus Städten, in denen Liszt gewirkt hat und künstlerisch tätig gewesen ist. Die neu entstandenen Werke geben ein vielfältiges und innovatives Bild von zeitgenössischer Kunst aus der Europäischen Union. Die Werkschau, die nun auf Tour durch jene Städte / Länder geht, die für Liszt bedeutende Stationen waren, ist auch im Geiste des Europäers Franz Liszt gedacht, ebenso wie dieser Ausstellungskatalog. Eines der Kernziele des eu-art-network ist der grenzüberschreitende Austausch und die Vernetzung von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern. Die bisherigen Ergebnisse dieser europäischen Kunstsymposien haben im Laufe der Jahre bereits international ein breites und positives Echo gefunden, diese Publikation soll auch darüber einen kleinen Eindruck vermitteln. Ein herzliches Dankeschön allen Sponsoren und Förderern, die das Projekt eu-art-network immer wieder unterstützen, sowie den Künstlerinnen und Künstlern für ihre Beiträge. Ich lade Sie ein, über den Weg der Kunst die vielfältigen Farben und Klänge Europas zu hören und zu sehen.

This year marks the tenth time that »eu-art-network«, founded by me in 2001, was host to an international arts symposium in Austria. More than 30 artists working in various fields of art in the European Union were invited to stay at Cselley Mühle Oslip (in Austria’s federal province Burgenland) from 26 August to 5 September 2010 to work on their creations, which included paintings, sculptures, printed graphics, digital media works, installations, performances, compositions and dance. This year’s symposium, themed »Hear the Light … See the Sound«, was devoted to exploring the phenomenon of synaesthesia and its manifestations in art, as exemplified specifically in the work of European artist Franz Liszt. All the participants came from cities in whose history Liszt, by living and working there, played a certain role. The works created by the symposium’s participants give a diverse and innovative picture of contemporary art in the European Union. An exhibition showcasing these works will be touring through citiesand countries that marked important milestones in Liszt’s life and career. The exhibition, as well this catalogue, is thus dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt, who specifically identified himself as a European. One of eu-art-network’s primary goals is to provide a platform for artists to communicate, exchange information and connect with each other across national boundaries. Because of the promising results that have been achieved throughout the last few years, the network’s symposia have received a lot of positive feedback on an international level – a fact which will be further illustrated in this publication.
